Stefano Simone Pintor was born in Milan in 1984.

Winner of several International writing and directing contests, he has established himself as one the most promising European artists.

His interests range from literature to theatre, music, filmmaking, visual and computer arts.


TRAINING

After several years of musical training, in 2008 he graduated cum laude in Theory and History of Theatre at the University of Turin and the following year he graduated cum laude in Stage Direction at the School of Dramatic Arts "Paolo Grassi" in Milan.


ASSISTANT DIRECTION

As of 2005 he began his professional theatre career, working for the Teatro Olmetto of Milan as organizer and assistant director of several plays and shadowing, among others, E. de' Giorgi, M. Navone and V. Molinari.

From 2008 he worked as assistant director for several opera productions, alongside renown directors such as F. Micheli, L. Ronconi, F. Ripa di Meana, W. Kentridge, G. Lavia, L. Pelly, G. Cassiers, D. Michieletto, D. Tcherniakov, D. McVicar and G. Vick. Aside being assistant director for the Teatro alla Scala for 8 years, Pintor worked in many prestigious International opera houses such as the Opera of Rome, the Opera of Florence, the NCPA in Beijing, the Capitole de Toulouse, the Opera de Marseille, the Bolshoi in Moscow, the Bunka Kaikan in Tokyo and many others.

From 2010 till 2016 he is been assistant and revival director of the Canadian stage director Robert Carsen.


WRITING

In 2011 Pintor released his first book, "Il teatro degli zoppi”, a theatrical essay published by Ananke (Turin), whilst the same year he started writing and staging original plays, earning his first recognitions.

In 2012 he started his career as librettist by releasing a brand new Italian poetic adaptation and reduction of “Die Zauberflöte”.

In 2016 Pintor won two international opera contests, thanks to which he has been called to write the libretti of two new contemporary operas: “Il flauto tragico”, a comical opera loosely inspired by Mozart's “Magic Flute” which was performed in 2016 at the Biennale Musica in Venice and “Ettore Majorana - Cronaca di infinite scomparse”, which was published by Ed. Ricordi Milano and performed in the 5 Opera Lombardia opera houses in Italy, plus the Haydn Stiftung in Bozen.

Moreover, in the two-year period 2016/2017, Pintor has been resident librettist at the Teatro dell'Opera in Rome, where he wrote the libretti of “On/Off” and “She”, two contemporary operas that has been staged at the Teatro Nazionale in Rome.

In 2019 Pintor’s latest libretto is going to be staged throughout all the main Dutch and Belgian theatres. This work, called "Vivaldi - Dangerous Liaisons" and produced by Opera2Day is a brand-new baroque opera, a pastiche that fuses Antonio Vivaldi’s most thrilling arias in an entirely new libretto based on one of the 18th century’s most notorious novels, "Les Liaisons Dangereuses" by Choderlos de Laclos.


THEATRE DIRECTION

As a theatre director, he produced numerous plays, including "Commedia all'improvviso" by R. Ciaravino (staged at the Academy of Theatrical Arts in Krakow); "Via Giona, 78" by A. Comi (staged at the Teatro Litta of Milan); "Caravaggio" by S. S. Pintor. and E. de' Giorgi (staged at the Italian Cultural Institute in London and the Teatro Blu of Milan) and many others. In 2009 he founded the theatre company Impresa Teatrale Fratelli Meucci which for three years produced plays such as "Santa la Terra", staged at the Teatro alle Vigne in Lodi and winner of the prizes Best Drama and Best Performance at the Italian contest Lodi di Pace 2011. In 2013, he wrote and staged “Cibus!”, an interactive play on the theme of alimentation, casting the author and actor R. Capaldo. In 2014 and 2015 he received a special mention at the Festival Internazionale di Regia Teatrale Fantasio for the high quality of his works.


OPERA DIRECTION

In 2011 he won the second prize of the international competition "European Opera Directing Prize" organized by Camerata Nuova, thanks to which he could write and direct two successful opera production for children (see below > Education).

In 2014, Pintor staged "Orfeo and Euridice" by Gluck for the 39th Cantiere Internazionale d'Arte in Montepulciano (Italy), concurrently with the 300th anniversary of Gluck's birth.

In 2016, thanks to the Opera Oggi International contest and the Biennale Music College Contest, Pintor wrote the libretti and curate the stage direction of the already mentioned “Il flauto tragico” and “Ettore Majorana – Cronaca di infinite scomparse”, with which he could earn the interest of the Italian press review and gain a large success of audience.

For two years, in 2017 and 2018, Pintor opened the season of the prestigious Immling Festival (Germany), staging two verdian grand-opera, “I vespri siciliani” and “Don Carlo”. Also these productions have been successfully received by the audience and the German press.


THE SOCIAL OPERA HOUSE

Following his interests in computer arts and information technologies, in 2015, Pintor founded the first entirely online and virtual theatre of the world, “The Social Opera House”, with which he wrote and produced the first Web Opera Series ever realized, named “The Banker”. The pilot episode won the “Best Musical” Prize at the Web Series Festival Global Award of Hollywood.


EDUCATION

Stefano Simone Pintor has also a significant interest in connecting arts and education. He has created interactive shows for children as well as international workshops for future theatre professionals.

In 2012 he wrote and directed "Il flauto magico – Sconfiggere mostri" for the project Opera domani... by As.Li.Co. The production, with more than 150 performances, staged a huge tour stopping in most major Italian opera houses and theatres, including the Teatro Regio in Turin, the Teatro Comunale in Bologna, the Teatro Sociale in Como, the Teatro Ponchielli in Cremona, the Teatro Comunale in Bozen and many others. With this project Opera domani... could interact for the first time with the television media, creating a program entirely dedicated to the show, "Mozart a modo mio", aired from May to June 2012 on the network DeA Kids of the Sky TV platform.

In 2014 he staged an “Aida” by G. Verdi, again for the project Opera domani... and produced by As.Li.Co. The show has been awarded with the representing medal of the Italian Republic President Giorgio Napolitano for the high cultural and educational value of the project. Also this production has being staged in all most major Italian opera houses and it has been aired a TV program dedicated to it, called “Verdi a modo mio”. 

Following these successes, in 2015 his “Flauto magico" was acquired by the Royal Opera House of Muscat, in Oman, where it became its first repertoire opera.

Instructor at the School of Dramatic Arts of Milan and at the IES Abroad Milan, over the years, Pintor has also created and promoted International workshops for future authors, directors, actors and singers who are studying to become theatre professionals.
