Gaia Petrone graduated in singing from the Conservatorio di Santa Cecilia di Roma, later in baroque music at Royal Conservatoire de L’Aia. Winner of the VII International Competition of Ancient Music “F. Provenzale” in Naples and of the XII International Opera competition “V. Gentile”. 

Her professional debut was in the role of Apollonia in La Canterina by Haydn at Festival dell'Intermezzo e dell'Opera buffa. Later debuts include: Dorina in La finta cameriera by Latilla at the Second Festival Latilla and Lisetta in Il mondo della luna by Haydn at Teatro Bonci in Cesena. She performed the roles of Tancredi, Polidoro e Pastore in Erminia by Scarlatti with the ensemble Concerto de' Cavalieri at Centro di Musica Antica Pietà de' Turchini di Napoli and the roles of Pittura and Alinda in the modern world premiere of Il novello Giasone by Cavalli/Stradella at Festival della Valle d'Itria in 2011.

In 2012 Gaia joined the young ensemble of Theater an der Wien in Vienna performing roles like: Clarina in La cambiale di matrimonio, Medoro in Orlando by Handel, Sibari in Semiramide riconosciuta by Handel/Vinci conducted by Alan Curtis and Sesto in La Clemenza di Tito, Pisana in I Due Foscari with Placido Domingo and conducted by James Conlon. In 2013/14 she debuted Angelina in Cenerentola. After she made her debut in the U.S.A. as Rosina in Il Barbiere di Siviglia at Palm Beach Opera. 

In 2015 she debuted in UK performing Haendel's Messiah with Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Nathalie Stutzmann.

Afterwards: Ippolita in Elena by Cavalli in Aix-en-Provence and in tournée conducted by Leonardo Garcia Alarcòn, Angelina in Cenerentola at Opera in Göteborg and Ursule in Beatrice ed Benedicte  Toulouse. During the season 2015/16 at Theater an der Wien she performed as Damigella in L’incoronazione di Poppea by Monteverdi and Emilia in Rossini's Otello

In 2016-2017 she was Emilia in Rossini's Otello for the opening of the season at Teatro San Carlo in Naples, conducted by Gabriele Ferro and directed by Amos Gitai. 

Recent engagements include: Angelina in La Cenerentola in Göteborg, Abra in Juditha Triumphans by Vivaldi in tourée with the TAW of Vienna, Concertgebouw in Amsterdam and Opéra Royal in Versailles with The King’s Consort, Ramise in Haendel's Arminio for the 40th anniversary of Handel Festspiele in Karlsruhe, Proserpina and Ninfa in Moteverdi's Orfeo with Monteverdi Festival at Teatro Ponchielli in Cremona with Ottavio Dantone and Accademia Bizantina, Isaura in Margherita d’Anjou by G. Meyerbeer at Festival di Martina Franca with Fabio Luisi, Aurora and Fosforo in La morte d’Orfeo by Stefano Landi at De Nationale Opera in Amsterdam with Christophe Rousset and Les Talens Lyrique, directed by Pierre Audi, Iris in Proserpine by Silvia Colasanti with Festival dei due mondi in Spoleto 2019, Eduige in Haendel's Rodelinda at National Opera in Santiago del Chile and Cleone in Rossini's Ermione at Teatro San Carlo in Naples; Sabina in Donizetti's Le nozze in villa with Festival Donizetti Opera 2020 in Bergamo and Zaida in Il Turco in Italia at Teatro San Carlo in Naples, conducted by Montanaro and directed by Calenda.

Among recent engagements in 2021 and 2022: Juditha Thriumphans (Abra) by Vivaldi in 21/22 in Stuttgart, Albino e Plautilla (Plautilla) by L. Vinci in Naples, San Giovanni (Herodiade) by Stradella in France, L'Angelica (Licori) by Porpora with Festival della Valle d'Itria in Martina Franca.

Engagements in 2022 and 2023: Il ritorno di Ulisse in patria (Melanto and L’humana fragilità) in Cremona; Xerse (Arsamente) by Cavalli at Festival della Valle d’Itria; Il barbiere di Siviglia (Rosina) - Teatro Petruzzelli in Bari; Orfeo (Orillo) by Sartorio in Montpellier; L'Angelica in Mainz; Carrà, new production by Lamberto Curtoni, Festival Donizetti in Bergamo.


Her oratorio and concert repertoire include: Gloria by Vivaldi with the ensemble Gruppo d'Archi Veneto and with Wiener Kammersymphonie at Musikverein in Vienna; Dixit Dominus by Handel; Magnificat by Vivaldi; Messa in si minore by Bach conducted by Marco Berrini and la Musikalische Exequien by Schutz conducted by Peter Neumann. She has been invited for concerts at Teatro Sociale in Rovigo and at Teatro Comunale in Vicenza with Filarmonica Regionale Veneta, conducted by Stefano Romani. 

Her discography includes live recordings of Il mondo della luna by Haydn, and Il novello Giasone by Cavalli/Stradella, with the label Bongiovanni;  Simon Boccanegra with Wiener Symphoniker conducted by Massimo Zanetti for Decca, and the transcription for piano by Czerny for Naxos.
